THOUGHTS ABOUT COACHING

CREATING A POSTIVE ENVIRONMENT,

MAKES THIS EXPERIENCE ENRICHING !!

Good Coach

Poor Coach

  • Teaches good sportsmanship, consideration for others, and competitiveness
  • Focuses upon winning or competitiveness first

  • Praises children for personal best or just trying
  • Yells at kids for not doing better and argues with game officials

  • Tries to teach elements of the game to all his players, without expecting too much
  • Only works hard with the more skilled players, lets others have little or no instruction

  • Has a plan at practice for improving team skills and keeps everyone involved
  • Has no plan and holds long, poorly thought-out team practices

  • Teaches children how to take competition coolly and have fun—win or lose!
  • Teaches winning at all costs—“Make sure you run over the second baseman!”
